Schaeffer Speculates That if the Religious Right Won, America Would be Exactly Like Iran

Frank Schaeffer is quickly becoming one of my favorite columnists.  He has an incredible insight into the mind of the neoconservative religious base as he used to be one of the founders and leaders of the original religious right movement.  Sometime in the mid-eighties, he had an epiphany and left the movement.  Now, it seems he does everything he can to stop them.  This weeks piece for the Huffington Post is no exception.

He uses the turmoil in Iran and surmises that America would be experiencing the same exact thing had the religious right managed to achieve their plans to take over government here in America.  He offers some hard, but obvious, lessons that we all should take away from Iran:

What are the real lessons of Iran for the USA?

1) Don't mix religion and politics.

2) Thank God for the separation of church and state.

3) The Republicans are utter hypocrites.

It’s a fascinating read and I highly recommend it.

  1. Bless you, Andrew, for giving me some very intelligent arguments to counter the incessant rants from my neo-con relatives.

  2. Oh, my pleasure. Everybody needs some level headed ammo now and again.
